What are Longreen Wood Vinegar Detox Patches?

Longreen Wood Vinegar Detox Patches are self-adhesive external patches containing wood vinegar extract powder, supplied ten patches to a box. Each patch is applied to clean, unbroken skin — most often the sole of the foot — worn for six to eight hours overnight, then removed and discarded.

Wood vinegar, also called pyroligneous acid, is the brown acidic condensate collected when wood is heated without air and the smoke is cooled. Here it is a dried powder in a sealed fabric sachet. The carton is also marked With Tourmaline, a boron silicate mineral. Produced by Longreen Healthcare Ltd in China.

  • Self-adhesive and ready to use straight from the pack — nothing to open, mix or heat.
  • Single use: each patch is worn once and discarded.
  • Designed for overnight wear, so it fits an existing bedtime routine.
  • Ten per box, roughly five nights if you use one on each foot. This is calculated from the pack size, not a duration stated by the manufacturer.
  • External application only, to intact skin.

This is an external personal-care product. It is not a medicine, a medical device or a dietary supplement, and it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

What does the evidence show about detox foot patches?

There is no reliable evidence that detox foot pads or wood vinegar patches draw toxins, heavy metals or metabolic waste out of the body. We would rather set that out clearly than let the packaging speak for us.

The claim has been tested. In 2009 the US Federal Trade Commission charged the marketers of a widely advertised detox foot pad brand with deceptive advertising over toxin-removal and disease claims; the regulator found them false or unsupported, and in 2010 a court barred those marketers from selling health products. Laboratory analysis commissioned by NPR in 2008 found no significant difference in metal content between used and unused pads.

Detoxification is carried out by the liver and kidneys, with a smaller contribution from the sweat glands, and no reliable evidence shows a skin patch adds to that. We sell these patches as what they physically are: an inexpensive, single-use external patch some people like to wear overnight as part of a bedtime routine. They do not treat swelling, joint pain or any other condition, and they do not replace medicine.

Why does the patch turn dark overnight?

Because wood vinegar powder darkens when it meets moisture and warmth. It reacts with perspiration and with air, and the pad goes from pale to dark brown or near-black. Testing has shown the same darkening occurs when a fresh pad is exposed to water alone.

The colour is a property of what is inside the patch, not a measurement of anything that came out of you. The soles carry one of the highest densities of sweat glands on the body, which is why an overnight foot patch darkens far more than one on a shoulder. A darker pad means a damper pad. Colour charts matching pad shades to particular organs have no scientific basis and are recognised by no health authority — the colour of a used patch is not information about your health.

What does the Longreen pack state?

The table records only what is printed on the carton supplied to us. Where the pack states a function, it is the manufacturer’s own wording and is not adopted as a claim by Recs-Medix.

How do you apply a wood vinegar foot patch?

The manufacturer prints a six-step method on the carton. Each patch is used once.

  1. Clean and dry your feet, or whichever area of skin you are using.
  2. Peel away the larger section of the adhesive plaster, keeping the printed side of the sachet facing outwards — the lettering must not touch your skin.
  3. Attach the sachet to the adhesive plaster.
  4. Peel away the smaller section and press the patch firmly onto the skin.
  5. Wear it while you sleep, for at least six hours; the manufacturer recommends eight.
  6. In the morning, peel it off, discard the used sachet and wash the area.

Apply each patch immediately after removing the protective backing, and do not puncture or open the sachet.

What skin reactions are possible, and who should avoid these patches?

Remove the patch immediately if you feel stinging, itching or burning. Wash the area and do not reapply. If a rash, blistering or any reaction spreading beyond the patch develops, seek medical attention.

The realistic risks are local. Adhesive plasters can irritate sensitive skin, and skin held damp for six to eight hours is more prone to redness and itching. Allergic reactions to detox foot pads are documented. Wood vinegar is acidic, which is why the manufacturer instructs that the sachet must not be punctured. The pack also states the patches must not go on open wounds or inflamed areas, are for external use only, and must be kept away from children.

Please speak to a healthcare professional first if any of the following applies:

  • You have diabetes, reduced sensation in your feet, or a nerve or circulation problem in the legs — anything worn on the sole overnight risks skin damage going unnoticed.
  • You have broken, cracked, infected, inflamed or recently treated skin at the site.
  • You have eczema, psoriasis, sensitive skin or a known plaster allergy.
  • You have swelling in the legs, ankles or feet, or persistent pain — both can indicate a condition that needs diagnosing.

Recs-Medix supplies this product to adults aged 18 and over as a matter of retail policy. The carton states only that it should be kept away from children.

Frequently asked questions

Do wood vinegar detox patches remove toxins from the body?

No. There is no reliable evidence that detox foot pads remove toxins, heavy metals or metabolic waste. The US Federal Trade Commission found such claims false or unsupported when it acted against a major brand in this category, and laboratory analysis found used pads no different from unused ones.

What does the colour of a used detox foot pad mean?

It means the pad has absorbed moisture. Wood vinegar powder darkens on contact with perspiration and air, and the same change occurs with water alone. A darker pad is simply a damper pad. Colour charts matching shades to organs have no scientific basis.

How long should you wear a wood vinegar foot patch?

Longreen states at least six hours and recommends eight, which is why the patches are worn overnight and removed in the morning. Each patch is single use. Do not extend wear beyond one night, and remove it sooner if you notice irritation, stinging or itching.

What are the possible side effects of wood vinegar or bamboo vinegar patches?

Local skin reactions — redness, itching, irritation and adhesive sensitivity — made more likely by skin staying damp under the patch for hours. Allergic reactions are documented. Bamboo vinegar is a closely related product in similar patches; this carton states wood vinegar. Remove the patch if any reaction occurs.

Can the patches be used on the knees, shoulders or neck?

The carton states they may be applied to the feet, knees, waist, shoulders, elbows or neck. Wherever you apply one, the skin must be clean, dry and unbroken, and never over a wound, rash or inflamed area. Expect much less colour change away from the feet.

How many nights does one box last?

A box holds ten patches — roughly five nights used one per foot, or ten as a single patch. This is calculated from the pack size; the manufacturer states no course length and recommends no particular number of consecutive nights. Each patch is single use and should not be re-worn.
